BoulderActive

Boulderactive is an annual national bouldering competition organised by the NUS Climbing Sub-Club. Opened to the public, Boulderactive is established as a key climbing event that seeks to provide a safe and fair platform for climbing enthusiasts to compete and gauge their skills upon. Besides the competition, it also a time for climbers to engage one another, share their experiences and for them to gain exposure.

Boulderactive had its humble beginnings within the premises of the NUS Rock Gym as a small scale bouldering competition in 1998. It has since grew significantly and in 2002, it made its milestone public debut when the event was held at the Youth Park. Building on the success of the 2002 event, Boulderactive have been brought venues such as Toa Payoh HDB Hub, Plaza Singapura and Atrium@Orchard. These initiatives help to generate more hype for the event; and also bring the sport closer to Singaporeans at large.

To date, the competition attracts over 300 participants annually, with some coming from overseas. They come from all walks of life, from students to working professionals, all with the same burning passion for climbing. To cater to such a diverse group, a three tiered categories competition was introduced in 2005 to ensure fairness and is now adopted by most local bouldering competitions. In 2005, we also saw an unique competition wall setting that stretches laterally - it has also become our trademark. In 2006, online registration was introduced and was well received by competitors and organisers alike for its convenience.

With new implementations through these years, Boulderactive strives to become a bigger event and also more rewarding for participants in the years to come!
